![]() Innovative in absolutely absurd slang he may be, his innovation is a gift and a curse, and the curse is his serious lack of album making ability. E-40 is a great rapper to listen to for about eight tracks, but afterwords, his ‘ignant’ raps get tedious, the beats start to fade in their frazzling effect, and E-40’s hooks begin to wear on the listener (even when they were consistently awful to begin with.) Basically, Night Shift is the better of the two, but even so, it’s seriously lacking in the replay department, with the same ol’ E-40 shtick continuing to wear and tear. That’s how it sounds at the first moments, but then the problems of the record come to realization. Also his choice of hyphy beats is ace, he prefers the simple, loud percussion, and trunk rattling bass, and muffled, bizarre choices of chorus samples, simultaneously fitting E-40's silly style and getting the party flippin'. E-40 is an undeniable technically proficient rapper, writing utterly silly trap raps with a slippery, liquid-y flow that can fill into any beat. The double album release of Revenue Retrievin' displays both why we love and hate E-40. Loved and respected by both seasoned Rap veterans such as Snoop Dogg to entry level giants such as YG without question E-40 continues to reign supreme. 2011 release from the Hip Hopster, the companion CD to his Revenue Retrievin: Overtime Shift album released on the same day.
